Five more of these Post-Lunch Links Coma blog posts and this blog can run for the Presidency…we have big plans!…big plans…
Late last night, while conducting research for SEO, marketing news, new CMS and shopping cart softwares, and of course research for this blog, HubSpot released a new blog post with accompanying hour long video about Scott Kurtz, An InBound Marketer who doesn’t even know he is an inbound marketer. From the moment I saw the blog post, I’ve been itching to write this blog, as I am a huge fan of Scott Kurtz and his daily webcomic PvP (Player vs Player), and have even convinced other people in the Evolve Systems office to start reading his publications.
The entire hour long interview is well worth watching, as Scott Kurtz is a pretty funny and fascinating man doing things no one else had thought of before, but here are the online marketing takeaways that HubSpot identified:
Consistently Create Content
One of the aspects of Kurtz’s story that sticks out to me was that he already had a large amount of comic strips produced and ready to be published. Because of his need to create these syndication packages he had a backlog of content that he was able to consistently post when he decided to start publishing online.
Make Your Content Easy to Share
The internet makes content extremely easy to share. Kurtz took advantage of this and continues to do so today. He leverages a wide array of social media services that allow his fans to share his comics easily and quickly.Be Authentic and Know Your Audience
Kurtz had a very good idea of who was reading his comics and who his audience was. He was already immersed in the video game culture, and because of this, the comics he drew were authentic. This caused his fans to feel connected to Kurtz and his comics in a way that can’t be faked.
Here’s another fun success story! SmallBizTrends has an article up about how a Social Media Campaign Shows the Power of Contests.
Contests and promotions have been a popular form of marketing on Facebook and other social sites in recent years, and a campaign by the Dockers clothing brand is a particularly good example of how to use such a contest to build a strong fan base and positive brand association. Although this is a large-scale campaign for a well-known brand, it provides key takeaways that can mean the difference between success and failure for any business hoping to turn social site visitors into loyal customers and brand advocates.
Plenty of good takeaways from this article. In social media, the ROI is really what you make it. You can set your expectations and then figure out how to achieve them, and most likely you will be if they are attainable and well researched and strategized in advance. Stories like these make us at Evolve Systems excited for what’s in store for social media for our clients!
One last link. This is debatable, but the argument can be made that duplicate content on your website can result in you being banned by Google. While having many pages is a great thing for your website’s SEO, having duplicate content can hurt it. It’s worth taking the time to set up a single page for a product or topic or idea, and then creating numerous other pages that link back to that single page, rather than duplicating the one page multiple times. In the end, this can only help your website rank higher in Google and other search engines.
Have a great weekend everyone! (and go read some PvP!)
